Los Angeles (California).- Just over a year before the opening match of the FIFA World Cup 2026, the Los Angeles Host Committee has proudly unveiled the winning design of the city’s official tournament poster. Created by local artist Thieb Delaporte-Richard, the poster stands out with its captivating digital painting, collage, and illustration—a visual celebration of Los Angeles’ energy, creativity, and deep-rooted connection to the beautiful game.

The design emerged as the top pick from over 900 submissions entered in the Los Angeles Poster Design Contest held last fall. The final artwork was selected by a panel of five highly respected cultural and public art experts in L.A. County: renowned curator Ann Philbin, Department of Arts and Culture Director Kristin Sakoda, multimedia artist Glenn Kaino, printmaker Dewey Tafoya, and art collector and philanthropist Joy Simmons.

The selection committee was assembled by the Annenberg Foundation, a local philanthropic leader that partnered with the host committee to support and promote emerging local talent.

Thieb Delaporte-Richard, a multidisciplinary designer specializing in art direction, motion design, and 3D, was born and raised in France before moving to Los Angeles a decade ago. Drawn by the city’s creative energy, he found in L.A. not only artistic inspiration but also a home that echoed his lifelong passion for soccer.

“I’m truly thrilled and honored to have been selected as the winner of the Los Angeles World Cup Poster Design Contest,” Thieb said. “Having my art showcased not only in L.A. but on a global stage is an incredible opportunity—bringing together my love for football, my creative journey, and a city that continues to inspire me every day.”

In addition to receiving widespread exposure, Thieb was awarded $20,000 for his winning design. The contest also recognized three finalists with $2,500 each and granted $500 prizes to 12 other standout entries. The competition was promoted through a comprehensive outreach campaign focused on engaging emerging and underrepresented artists across Los Angeles.

By encouraging participation through both community-driven promotion and financial incentives, the committee aimed to elevate voices that reflect the diverse artistic landscape of the city.

Kathryn Schloessman, President and CEO of the Los Angeles Sports & Entertainment Commission and lead organizer for the local host city committee, praised the poster as a powerful representation of the city’s creative spirit.

“Los Angeles is known as a global cultural hub with a vibrant artistic community,” she said.

“Thieb’s poster is a visual tribute to our region—creating a sense of belonging while building excitement around the unforgettable World Cup experience we’ll deliver in Los Angeles next summer. I’m grateful to Wallis Annenberg and the Annenberg Foundation for helping bring this opportunity to our community as we gear up to host the biggest sporting event in the world.”

The L.A. poster is one of 16 regional designs to be unveiled over the coming weeks, with each host city for the FIFA World Cup 26 introducing a unique work of art to represent their local identity and enthusiasm for the tournament. This marks the first time in World Cup history that individual host cities have released official posters, offering fans a cultural connection to each venue. Artists involved in the project were all selected for their ties to the regions they represent, reflecting the grassroots energy of this tri-nation tournament.

Thieb’s winning poster will be prominently featured in the lead-up to the tournament and will play a key role in promoting the opening match of the U.S. Men’s National Team in Los Angeles, scheduled for June 12, 2026. Fans eager to own a piece of this artistic legacy will be able to purchase the L.A. poster, along with the 15 other city designs, later this year.
