Irvine (California).- The City of Irvine is set to host its second annual car-free open streets celebration, CicloIrvine, on Saturday, May 3, 2025, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Residents, visitors, and local businesses are invited to experience the city in a new way—walking, biking, or skating along a 1.4-mile pedestrian stretch of Campus Drive, between University Drive and Culver Drive.
CicloIrvine showcases Irvine’s commitment to community engagement, sustainability, and eco-friendly transportation. More than just a street closure, the event transforms a major corridor into a vibrant, shared public space with live music, public art, and interactive activities designed for all ages. It offers a unique opportunity for people to connect with their surroundings, their neighbors, and local businesses in a refreshed, joyful atmosphere.
This initiative is part of Irvine’s broader push toward clean air, healthier lifestyles, and sustainable urban planning. By temporarily removing cars from the streets, CicloIrvine reduces emissions and noise pollution while promoting walking and cycling as viable transportation options. The event also highlights the value of reclaiming public space for community-building and play.
Street closures will take place from 5:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 3. Most adjacent roads will remain open, but on-street parking along the route will be prohibited. Residents and workers along the CicloIrvine corridor should plan for detours, although designated vehicle crossing points will be in place to ensure access is maintained.
Local businesses located along Campus Drive are encouraged to take part by offering special deals or becoming official event sponsors. The City of Irvine proudly welcomes UC Irvine and UCI Health as lead sponsors. Additional sponsorship opportunities are available at cityofirvine.org/cicloirvinesponsors, where organizations can align themselves with a beloved and eco-conscious community event.
CicloIrvine also invites volunteers to help make the event a success. Opportunities include assisting with set-up, welcoming attendees, guiding traffic, or supporting activity stations throughout the day. Those interested can reach out to Vivian Nguyen at vinguyen@cityofirvine.org for more details on how to get involved.
At its core, CicloIrvine is about reimagining how we use public space—not just for transportation, but for connection, creativity, and community. These types of events, gaining popularity in cities across the globe, are proven to foster environmental awareness, energize local commerce, and create shared memories for participants of all backgrounds.
Whether you’re walking, biking, skating, or just coming to explore, CicloIrvine offers something for everyone. Irvine’s open streets become a canvas for creativity and a celebration of clean living.
